Helios has an extreme shifted elliptical orbit. As well as being very long the planet orbits very slowly, a complete orbit taking 50 millenia, for 10 millenia of this orbit Helios is habbitable. During these periods the planet is often verdant and full of life, but then passes extremely close around its sun, killing all life, blighting the planet into a wasteland, and triggering intense volcanic activity. The planet then over many millenia passes far away from the sun, towards the edge of the system, past The Shroud Nebula and into intense cold; cooling the volcanic activity and leaving ashen deserts. The planet then passes back through the nebula again, slowly becoming a life sustaining, if harsh, world … and eventually repeating its cycle. It rotates very slowly as well with day and night lasting roughly a fortnight each.
This unusual orbit was caused by the impact of a comet many millennia ago; knocking the world out of its more typical orbit and fracturing the surface causing The Rezyk amongst other things.
Helios has five moons: Mecha, Abys, Clymene, Merope, Aegle (roughly in order of size). The moons all share the same orbit and are equidistant from each other. The moons all orbit at the same very slow pace taking approximately a year to cycle the planet. As Helios has such a slow orbit and as such doesn’t have seasons its people measure the year by a cycle of the moons; starting with Mecha, then Merope, then Aegle, then Clymene, and finally Abys.
(This section refers to the geography of the world as of the year 3000AE Cytanian Calendar)
The surface of Helios is covered in endless ashen deserts. These deserts are often whipped by fierce storms and are devoid of plant life, though rain occasionally falls it is not often. There are no seas, and the only geographical features are centred around the location of the impact of a large commit on the planets equator. The impact formed a crater still there today known as The Rezai and stretching north and south of it is an enormous chasm that stretches to either pole known as The Rezyk. Intense shifting of continental plates in the area caused by the impact has formed a jagged mountain range around the crater and the region is prone to earthquakes.
The re-heating and re-cooling of Helios causes vast cavern structures to be formed under the worlds surface … labyrinth like mazes that stretch for miles. These are often the worlds greatest source of water containing vast underground seas and also the entirety of the worlds plant life in the form of many varieties of fungus, lichen, and weed like plants that grow under water.
The poles of the world are icey cold, and while not enough rain falls to provide a deep snow covering the wastes sparkle with ice crystals here and the environment is even more harsh.
Plant life on Helios is made up of Fungi, Lichen, and Weeds all of which grow underground. Some of these are edible, others are deadly. It is possible to cultivate some of them argriculturally underground. Full Artical: Helios Plant Life.
The animal life on Helios can be split into two categories, Heliosites and Malites. Heliosites are a humanoid race of several variations (Phelgon, Aethon, Aeos, and Pyrois) evolved and mutated from the Ruthar that survived a crash from a Cytaninan Seed Ship, full article: Heliosites. Malites similarly evolved from the Malvine from Cytania that were on the ship; a domesticated beast of burden. On helios they have evolved into serval variants including aquatic and aerial versions but have not thrived as the Heliosites have and are small in number and are difficult to tame or farm.

The some of the Heliosites (the Phelgon and Aethon) have formed a united goverment in the form of a totalitarian theocratic oligarchy, known as The Helios Nation. The remainder (the Aeos, Pyrois, and a very few Phelgon) form nomadic tribes and occasionally larger clans.
